How we research

Primary sources first
We use statistics agencies, central banks, international organisations, regulators and industry bodies. Every figure links to the page it came from.

No invented numbers
If we cannot find a reliable published figure, we leave it out and explain what data is missing. We never fill gaps with estimates presented as facts.

Our calculations are labelled
When we derive a number, such as a growth rate from two published totals, the report says so plainly.

Forecasts are not results
Projections are clearly marked and credited to the organisation that made them.
