Overview

The Adobe Digital Economy Index is built from Adobe Analytics data on direct online consumer transactions with US retailers. It reports what share of online revenue comes from mobile devices [1]. In October 2025, mobile accounted for an average of 51.4% of online revenue, and Adobe expected the trend to continue through 2025 [1].

Adobe reported that the 2024 holiday season (November 1 to December 31) was the most mobile on record. Smartphones drove 54% of all online purchases, up from 51.1% in 2023 [2]. US online spending over the season rose 8.7% to $241.4 billion [2]. Electronics ($55.3 billion), apparel ($45.6 billion) and furniture and home goods ($29.2 billion) together made up 54% of that spending [2].

Payments on Mobile

BNPL payments, often used on mobile checkouts, reached a record $18.2 billion of US online holiday spending in 2024, up 9.6% from $16.6 billion in 2023 [2]. In October 2025, consumers spent $7.1 billion through BNPL, up 7.6% year over year [1].

Methodology

Mobile share figures come from Adobe Analytics through the Adobe Digital Economy Index [1]. The 2024 holiday figures are as reported by Talk Business & Politics, which cites Adobe [2]. Adobe measures transactions on the retail sites it tracks, so its totals differ from US Census Bureau e-commerce estimates. This report covers the United States only. We did not include India UPI data in this retry because we did not verify an NPCI figure in this session.
