Overview

Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies report two growth measures that show how demand is moving: organic growth, which strips out currency and acquisitions, and its split into price and volume. This edition uses Nestle's full-year 2025 results as the reference point for the packaged goods industry.

Nestle's total reported sales were CHF 89.5 billion in 2025 and organic growth was 3.5% [1]. Pricing contributed 2.8% [1].

Growth: Price vs Volume

In 2025 Nestle's organic growth of 3.5% was made up of 0.8% real internal growth (volume and mix) and 2.8% pricing [2]. In 2024 organic growth was 2.2%, with the same 0.8% real internal growth and 1.5% pricing [2].

Reuters reported that the 2024 organic growth figure was Nestle's lowest in at least 25 years [3]. Real internal growth accelerated from 0.2% in the first half of 2025 to 1.4% in the second half [2].

Sales and Profit

Sales were CHF 89,490 million in 2025, against CHF 91,354 million in 2024, a reported decline of 2.0% [2]. Foreign exchange reduced sales growth by 5.7% in 2025 and 3.7% in 2024 [2].

Underlying trading operating profit fell 8.4% to CHF 14,389 million from CHF 15,704 million [2]. The margin was 16.1% in 2025 [2], down from 17.2% in 2024 as reported by Reuters [3]. Free cash flow was CHF 9.2 billion [2].

Methodology

Figures are from Nestle's full-year 2025 results release [1], with the detailed results table taken from a reproduction of that release by James Sharp [2], and 2024 context from Reuters [3]. Values are in Swiss francs (CHF). Organic growth excludes currency and acquisitions/disposals. Unilever and Procter & Gamble results were not reviewed for this edition, so the report does not compare companies or estimate total FMCG market size.
