Executive Summary
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) estimates world coffee production rose 2.5% to 175.9 million 60-kg bags in coffee year 2024/25 and will rise 4.4% to 183.6 million bags in 2025/26. World consumption grew 4.3% to 182.2 million bags in 2024/25 and is estimated to fall 0.8% in 2025/26. After four straight deficit years from 2021/22 to 2024/25, the ICO projects a surplus of 3.0 million bags in 2025/26. The ICO Composite Indicator Price averaged 304.68 US cents/lb in December 2025, down from a peak of 343.92 cents in mid-November 2025.

Overview
The ICO estimates that world coffee production increased by 2.5% to 175.9 million bags in coffee year 2024/25, helped by recovery in Asia & Oceania and higher output in key African origins [1]. For 2025/26, production is estimated to rise 4.4% to 183.6 million bags, reflecting the higher-yielding phase of the biennial cycle in South America [1].
World consumption increased by 4.3% to 182.2 million bags in 2024/25, after a 0.6% rise the year before [1]. For 2025/26 the ICO estimates consumption will decline by 0.8% [1]. The market ran a deficit in four consecutive coffee years from 2021/22 to 2024/25 and is projected to move to a surplus of 3.0 million bags in 2025/26 [1].
Prices
The ICO Composite Indicator Price (I-CIP) is the benchmark average of green coffee prices across the main coffee groups. It averaged 250.56 US cents/lb in October 2024 [5]. It then climbed to 354.32 cents in February 2025 and 347.85 cents in March 2025 [2].
In October 2025 the I-CIP averaged 326.38 cents, with Colombian Milds at 403.25 cents and Other Milds at 403.79 cents [2]. The November 2025 average was 330.44 cents, with US tariff relief on Brazilian coffee weighing on prices and flooding in Vietnam adding upward pressure [4]. From mid-November to mid-December 2025 the I-CIP fell from 343.92 cents to a low of 283.21 cents, and the December average was 304.68 cents, down 7.8% month on month [3].
Regional Analysis
South America remains the largest producing region, with estimated output of 84.1 million bags in 2025/26, or 45.8% of world output [1]. Asia & Oceania is estimated at 29.7% of world production, Africa at 13.6% and the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico at 10.8% [1].
In November 2025, Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam were the largest exporters of soluble coffee, shipping 0.27 million, 0.31 million and 0.37 million bags respectively [3].
Trade
World coffee exports were 12.23 million bags in July 2026, compared with 11.84 million in July 2025 [4]. Exports in the first 10 months of coffee year 2025/26 (October 2025 to July 2026) were 118.39 million bags, against 118.43 million bags in the same period of 2024/25 [4].
In the twelve months to July 2026, Arabica exports totalled 80.96 million bags, down from 86.37 million, while Robusta exports rose to 60.01 million bags from 54.67 million [4]. The share of soluble coffee in exports of all forms of coffee rose to 12.1% in 2024/25 from 11.5% in 2023/24 [2].
Methodology
All figures come from ICO Coffee Market Reports and the ICO website. Volumes are in 60-kg bags of green coffee equivalent. Prices are monthly averages in US cents per pound. Coffee years run from October to September. Production and consumption for 2025/26 are ICO estimates and may be revised; the ICO notes it builds estimates from member statistics supplemented by other sources when member data are incomplete [5]. The regional production shares are as published by the ICO and sum to 99.9% due to rounding. USDA FAS coffee estimates use a different methodology and are not mixed with ICO figures here.
