Overview

PMAY-Urban was launched on 25 June 2015 and is implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs; PMAY-Gramin was launched in 2016 and is run by the Ministry of Rural Development [2]. The original PMAY-U mission period ran to 31 March 2022 and was extended to 31 December 2025 to complete houses sanctioned up to that date [3]. The female head of the family must be owner or co-owner of the house [2]. In June 2024, after 4.21 crore houses had been sanctioned since launch, the Cabinet approved assistance for 3 crore additional rural and urban households [2].

Methodology

Current PMAY-U figures are taken from the official PMAY-Urban dashboard on the date accessed [1]; dashboard values update continuously. June 2024 PMAY-U and PMAY-G figures come from a PIB press note [2]. PMAY-U 2.0 and the August 2026 combined milestone come from news reports citing the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs [4][5]. Units: 1 lakh = 100,000; 1 crore = 10 million. Completion rates are FREEE.REPORT calculations: completed houses divided by sanctioned houses for the same date.
